Zeidland

Welcome to my world! I always thought it would be fun to be the ruler of my own place, and now I can be! I see it as an island within a big city full of life, culture and lots of laughter. Consider yourself a citizen.

Pearl's farewell performance

Child Star, Pearl McKay, is leaving the glitter of cyber tinseltown. This is her farewell performance.

In a statement announcing her retirement she said. . .

"My ventures as an actor on the Internet have been rewarding and spiritually fulfilling, but now I must look to broader challenges as I approach my 26th month.
…I shall always reflect upon these days with much fondness, and also, I have no idea what I just said, and I want banananana and the upside down show."

Shampoo collection addition

With my recent travels, I stayed at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta.

Their hotel shampoos are by Portico. The unusual thing about this collection is that the bar of soap is a "soothing massage bar." It has these nubs molded into it which actually feel quite nice! The lavender-citurs scent is pretty nice too and pretty gender neutral (some get very womanly).

Insanity

When you hit yourself in the head with a hammer it hurts. Quite a lot most likely. But you do it again thinking maybe the next time it won't hurt. But it does hurt, just like the first time. Then perhpas you think, it could not hurt like the first two times a third time. Wrong. So you wait a week. Maybe you just need to forget the pain and try it again later. Nope, same thing, pain. A month later, happens again. You quickly remember the pain, same result. A year later. . .

Insanity is repeating the same behavior and expecting a different outcome.

Even a dot wants to be something.

While in Atlanta for the HOW Conference, a visit to unboundary demonstrated that even a little ole dot can be so much more than just a little ole dot!

Thomas Allen

Chip Kidd, besides being a great speaker at HOW, introduced many people to the photographer/sculptor Thomas Allen.

He describes his distinctive photographs as simply, "dames, dicks, and deadbeats 'cut loose' from the covers of vintage paperbacks to mix it up for the camera, blending pulp with pop-up, dime novel with diorama, and illustration with illusion."

He literally cuts the characters free from the covers of old pulp novels, creates a three-dimensional sculpture, then photographs it as if the characters are actual models for the camera, all from his basement in home basement in Michigan.

Passion

Unboundary created an amazing show for the office visit during the HOW Conference. This is what greeted us as we walked in to their playground! Everyone that worked there identified what they were passionate about. Anything, as you can see from the list!

They then had artifacts of their passion in there office space that lead us through their amazing space. . .AMAZING! Even the office dogs were given a space to call thewir own. The office is also housed in an old railroad turnaround building (you can see it at their site).

If I lived in Atlanta, I would so very much work for them. Who would not want to work with a bunch of non-linear creative people with so many varied and different passions all working in an innovative nearly open-air workspace!

HOTlanta!

I'm off for a few days to the HOW Conference. This year they are going down south to Atlanta. Coke, peaches, and the Olympics! Well design, new thinking and new people too.

Am hoping to pop in and post but if not, I'll be back next week!

Birthday Celebration

Not everyone can say they celebrated their birthday with 3 major celebrities at the Four Seasons Chicago! But I can!

Well, alright, we were in the same room, but very near each other on a couple occassions!

Felicity "Flica" Huffman, William H Macy and John Mahoney were all at the Gene Siskel Film Center Gala and Felicity and WIlliam H received The Gene Siskel Dual Renaissance Award. I was invited by Alison to be a guest at the Chicago Tribune table on my birthday!

Felicity is beautiful and has an rockin' ass! Looks much smaller in person, Felicity not her ass, but gorgeous! William H looks younger in person, and John Mahoney looks younger on tape/film.

Clips of co-stars dotted the dinner. The evening was capped off with a conversation with Flica and Bill moderated by John. Clips of the three honored guests were shown. Remember Felicity on Sports Night?! The converstaion was brief.

Dinner was wonderful. A year or so ago I had no idea what an amuse bouche was. But thanks to reality TV and Top Chef, I do! I say it was more of a soup course than an amuse bouche, but that just may be me!

Tree hugging

Ever since Earth Day this year, I have been doing my part.

I am now recycling what I can, best I can. I have been surprised how little actual garbage I have since doing so.

I am now switching over to compact fluorescent lamps (CFL). As my old incandescent bulbs burn out, I replace them with the new. Although the other day on the radio I heard a discussion about the mercury, a really bad environmental chemical, that is used in the compact fluorescent and not in traditional light bulbs. The debate is yes the bulbs last longer and use much less energy, but what happens when they do burn out and are disposed of. Or if you drop one and it breaks? Are we just delaying another biohazard? But I digress.

I am noticing more waste. This past week I bought a shirt, the packaging is shown in the picture. That seems like a lot of packaging for one shirt, paper, cardboard, 7 metal pins, plastic collar stay. All which turns to the consumer in hopes of it being recycled. But what if the store just simply hung the shirt on a hanger, took the shirt off the hanger when sold and used the hanger again?

Yeah! What if?

June 1, 1792 Kentucky was admitted as the 15th state of the United States; June 1, 1796 brought Tennessee into the fold.

Happy Hurricane Season!
