Zeidland

Welcome to my world! I always thought it would be fun to be the ruler of my own place, and now I can be! I see it as an island within a big city full of life, culture and lots of laughter. Consider yourself a citizen.

Naughty Naughty!

Zumanity is the other side of Cirque du Soleil.

It all starts with a piano and a candelabra lit with red light on a stage in a cabaret. The backdrop, a patterned red velvet curtain. And then Antonio showed up and started toying with the crowd. "Are you checking me ooouuuut?" "Yes," I say, it is part of the show! "That's goooooood! But tooo bahd for you. I am only gay on Monday!" It was Sunday and I was in the front row.

Following Antonio were the Bolero twins serving up strawberries of which I partook. And then the real festivities began with a swirling wind of black hair and rose petals. Followed by a rythmic dance of a woman draped in strings of beads.

A cage match between two men being cheered on by other men hanging from the top of the cage ending in a kiss between the combatants. A whip cracking woman dancing on a television enticing the men watching sports. Another tangled up in straps swinging from the rafters. A full monty striptease coyly hidden behind a grateful group of women. A tantric hand to hand display with a man and woman that was so close to me at one point I could have reached out and touched her.

Men, women, black, white, big, little, all of them expressing their passions on the stage for all to see in the closing orgy.

A little bit naughty, a little bit nice, all on the other side of Cirque!

O

As in O My Lord! It is one of the most amazing shows I have seen and definitely the best of all Cirque shows I have seen. And to boot I saw it from the second row in a "wet seat" which meant I stood a chance getting wet, which I did!

I want to sit down with the writer/director, Franco Dragone, and just try to see in his mind what he saw and how he had the courage to say "I see a play where a 1.5 million gallon pool is the stage."

This huge pool becomes liquid to solid right before your eyes but not in front of your eyes makes you doubt what you see. One minute they are diving into the depths of the pool, the next they are dancing across the surface.

Not taking themselves too seriously, there is even a part of the show where the safety divers surface and show themselves.

Then when you think you have seen everything from umbrellas that are boats and carousel horses floating through the air, there is a thunderstorm, complete with lightening, torrential rains and pounding thunder all while zebra striped performers swing and throw themselves across a metal grid that itself moves all the while.

I have a complete and new appreciation for synchronized swimming. When given the chance to perform, you can see more than their pinched noses and pointed toes. They add mystery, texture and wonder below the surface. You never know when, where or how they will show themselves.

When in Vegas see it. SEE IT!

Leaving Las Vegas

This is what you see as you leave. It is the back side of Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas!

I came home with money in my pocket, the new car thing just did not happen; two new funny friends, Cameron from New York and Barbara from Seattle; a new favorite Cirque Show, O; some really great ideas, and new thoughts and inspirations. Will be posting some of all over the next few days!

But now it is back to work.

Seamless

When last posted, September 27, 2005, the Cloud Gate, lovingly called the Bean, was seen with its seams still showing. After a year of final polishing, buffing and being under cover, it shines and reflects nicely on the city!

Vagina Street?

There is an old joke here in Chicago that there are only three streets that rhyme with Vagina. Melvina and Paulina are two of them.

Thank you! Try the veal I'm here all week!
