Zeidland

Welcome to my world! I always thought it would be fun to be the ruler of my own place, and now I can be! I see it as an island within a big city full of life, culture and lots of laughter. Consider yourself a citizen.

Word-A-Day

Alison sends me the word a day.

They are not always so interesting but this week's have peaked my interest! They are words that have evolved into other words.

Here are this week's words thus far!

Monday: Druthers (DRUTH-uhrz) noun; One's own way; preference, contraction of "'d rather", as in "I/he/etc. would rather ..."

Tuesday: Prithee (PRITH-ee) interjection; Please (used to express a request); contraction of (I) pray thee.

Wednesday: Willy-nilly (WIL-ee NIL-ee) adverb, adjective; 1. Whether willing or not. 2. Haphazardly; contraction of "will ye/he/I nill ye/he/I", from will (to be willing) and nill (to be unwilling).

Today: Blimey (BLY-mee) interjection; An expression of surprise, dismay, etc.; contraction of "blind me" or "blame me", from "God blind/blame me"; sometimes heard in the form gorblimey or corblimey.

Wasting time and helping the hungry.

Last week I posted the Trash Bin Basketball. . .nothing more than a diversion. Benefits no one!

Today, I bring to you a diversion that HELPS the hungry of the world. Sure, your productivity is down but your karma goes way up! AND you may even learn a thing or two.

Free Rice will donate 20 grains of rice through the United Nations to help the hungry throughout the world for each word you correctly identify. Do it as often as you like…they will donate the rice

The letter R

Today was my first day of ASL (American Sign Language) II class. I quickly realized I did not practice enough over the summer as I felt like I knew nothing during the hour and twenty minutes of class!

During class we received name signs. Essentially it is a sign that represents your name, a shortcut to lengthy finger spellings. The teacher asked us what we liked. All that came to mind was the sign for soda and then when asked what else I came up with Thai food! I only wish I was kidding! The teacher thought that was unique enough, the thai food aspect. My name sign is the finger spelling of the letter "R" making the sign for Thai which is the index finger touching the nose and then pointing down.

Of course driving home from class I realized a better name sign would be the letter "R" making the sign for graphic or design. And fortunately when I go to class on Monday, I can ask to change my name sign, and I know how to sign " I do not like my name sign. Please change it to. . .the letter "R" signing graphic."
